Future of Web Apps
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007So I’m back in Tokyo and back to work. FOWA & London was fun.
FOWA: Geeks. Good conversations. Beer. Could have been better only if I could get wifi working. Speaker lineups were great on both developer and entrepreneur tracks so some of interesting sessions clashed. Looking froward for recorded media. Two workshops [...]

Ultra Super New Found Love
Wednesday, July 25th, 2007I know it’s little complicated, but I have found a new love and have been mixing Miracle Wonder for her for couple of months. Now, I can’t tell you how to make Miracle Wonder, but I’ll tell you how you make UltraSuperNew.
You need,
One ambitious Australian
One crazy, talkative Dutch
One French mad doctor
One Canadian-Japanese vocalist
One American speaking, [...]
Oi! WTF?
Thursday, April 5th, 2007Oi Flickr!, In English, Japanese or Sinhalese? This brought a smile to my face. I like Flickr greeting me in different languages when I sign in. But shouldn’t we be more careful in deploying things like this in internationally used applications? “Oi” seem to have a similar meaning to English in a lot of other [...]
Paypal Japan
Tuesday, March 13th, 2007At last Paypal is offering their services in Japanese. God knows how long I have been waiting for this.
They seem to offer all of their merchant services in Japanese as well. Need to compare this with other competitive solutions.
When they let you down
Friday, March 9th, 2007Hard Drives. One of Maxtor 300Gb hdd on my desktop gave it up the other day. None of the project files were lost. But it took things I could cry over for days. Lesson learned. Back everything up!
On os x, Synk seem to be doing a pretty neat job.
Friday Night Movies
Saturday, March 3rd, 2007Yep. On YouTube. Pathetic. :) Was watching Jayantha Chandrasiri’s Guerilla Marketing last night, which screamed about the relativeness of reality, all the way through. Best Sri Lankan movie I have seen lately, after Prasanna Vitanage’s Ira Madiyama.
Was actually quite better than his first movie Agnidahaya. Interesting plot. Though I thought there were few weak points [...]

Tokyo Designers Week and the long weekend
Monday, November 6th, 20063rd November. Exhibitions
Holiday here. Tokyo was crazier with all the design exhibitions this weekend. Designers Week, 100% Design, Design Tide and Swedish Style (Continuing till 15th i think). Decided to checkout Designers week at Jingu Gaien Garden (near Shinanomachi St.) Atmosphere was refreshing and crazy with talent screaming for attention. Specially Designboom had pulled [...]
Sri Lankan Festival in Tokyo
Saturday, October 14th, 2006Went to the Sri Lankan festival at Yoyogi park. Wasn’t alive or interesting as much as I thought it would be. Except for the food. Which was quite good unlike what they serve in usual few Sri Lankan restaurants here. They could have done better, specially if they were thinking about promoting Sri Lanka as [...]
3rd October 2006
Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006Random stuff as of today.
Budzy – celebrated his 1st birthday last week. Silently. Even without a post!
Me – Caught a cold. Bought a nano.
Still couldn’t register for the PowerBook battery exchange program. Lazy ass. Can’t understand why I tend to ignore and postpone small tasks as simple as filling three form fields.
Happened to [...]
A Living life
Thursday, August 31st, 2006How many living men can make a speech like this about them selves? A speech by Steve Jobs in Stanford University’s graduation ceremony.

Recently…
Thursday, August 10th, 2006Have been working my ass off for past couple of weeks. Definitely need some rest and looking forward to the little outing next weekend. Staring at a monitor whole day doesn’t seem to be a good idea after all.
And on other news…
July 5th
Yours truly became an uncle. Little one was named Rovin.

Memories
Wednesday, June 21st, 2006All the cool kids can see their roof tops on Google Maps and you can’t? That’s a frustration of a kid of our time!
Anyways thanks to Google’s new update Colombo is no longer in the dark. Now this, is a Siyambala (tamarind) tree which holds a whole lot of memories.

Back from home…
Friday, May 12th, 2006Didn’t mean to forget you Budzy, but suddenly life became bit busier than it used to be. Yes, I went back Home (Sri Lanka) for a little vacation, where nothing had changed much for last one and half years, except that people seem to smile little less in Colombo. It was fun, though had [...]
Happy Birthday, Dear me!
Tuesday, March 21st, 2006Yeap, it’s my birthday (again!). Another year has passed by. Next year is going to be one of the most exciting years my life. Looking forward, very much.
It’s a nice day. A warm day after awhile. Everybody is going out. 21st of March is a holiday here. (Shumbun no hi / Start of Spring [...]
Hosted services, Accountability and Ma.gnolia
Wednesday, March 15th, 2006No need to say that every web shop in the town has a hosted beauty these days. Everybody is building a fancy app, for every imaginable purpose, fighting for my daily limited online tasks (or waiting for the call from Google) . No harm, the strongest & sexiest will get me. But how many of [...]
Dearest Grandmother…
Sunday, March 12th, 2006…warmth of your hugs, memories of your great inspiring stories and happiness of your smile will be with me for ever. Remember that story of little princess and his brother, who swept the dark forests in search of their parents? Remember how they managed to scare away the thieves and save the palace while they [...]
Skype Ins and Outs
Wednesday, March 1st, 2006I have been a happy Skype-out user for almost a year now, since it successfully replaced my IP phone in last May. It has become the way to keep intouch with my parents in Sri Lanka and friends all over.
And the other day our good friend Mayu managed to bribe me with a [...]
life moves on..
Friday, February 17th, 2006January 19th
Somehow found time for the calligraphy session at our kominkan. Refreshing times. Played with the brush like a kid. Oh, how many years do I have to wait to draw my own haiku with it..?

Feeling normal
Friday, January 6th, 2006Do people feel normal all the time?
Something went horribly wrong with me in last couple of months. Life around me seemed to be frozen all the sudden and and nothing went in the way it should have been (or it normally does) . It was like being in a really long coma.
I did really [...]
Happy New Year!
Sunday, January 1st, 2006Disneyland, Eric Meyer and a forgotten blog
Wednesday, December 28th, 2005Yes, I’ve been silent… Past few week have been really ordinary, silent and cold. Except that I visited Tokyo Disneyland last week, which was quite okay and attended a “CSS Nite” at Apple Store, Ginza, where I met Kaz, Haz, … and few more new interesting people. And got to see the Japanese translation of [...]
Election night…
Friday, November 18th, 2005… that’s one thing I really miss about Sri Lanka. Politics, Elections and election nights!
I don’t know if there’s any other nation where people are this much sensitive to politics. In the election season, where ever you go that’s the thing to be talking about… Everybody has got something to rant about and get involved [...]
Powerbook!
Monday, November 14th, 2005My new powerbook shipped yesterday :p and that’s it!

Come Back..!
Friday, November 4th, 2005I can’t believe they just took off Fish McDippers from McDonald’s menu. These people must be kidding! How can somebody cut off about 30% of a living man’s food supply, just like that!? :D Seriously, got to find an alternative now.

Rolling on Rails
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005I’ve never been a programmer and also don’t intend to be one. But I always enjoy playing around server-side stuff since the first time I wrote print “Hello world!\n”;
Last night I found some time to play around with Ruby On Rails, and successfully did a little todo list with Vincent Foley’s help. Do I [...]
Flock post
Friday, October 21st, 2005Just got an invitation for a Flock developer preview, and this is to test blogging via flock. Here are few screenshots and people seem to blogging about it at a rate of more than one post per minute at this very moment.
Jeffrey Veen at WE05 on Web 2.0
Wednesday, September 28th, 2005Jeffrey Veen’s excellent workshop on “Designing the Next Generation of Web Apps” at WE05 was just ended up couple of hours ago at University of Technology, Sydney. Though the plan was to live blog the event, WiFi was not available at the venue, probably should be because of Jeff’s recent expressions on WiFi at events [...]
Shoemaker gets his shoes done.
Monday, September 26th, 2005At last, yesterday I could find some time to skin my 3rd mockup for this site of mine. Before that I had been working on two other summer themes which I couldn’t find time to finish by the end of summer :D. Any how here I’m online again with an autumn theme!
Still she’s not [...]
